Description

Ammonites are a group of marine molluscs, more closely related to living octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish than to modern shelled nautiloids. Known for their spiral shells, they thrived in the ancient seas from the Devonian period until their extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period. Their shells, divided into chambers, are used for controlling buoyancy.
